Channel Description:

This is a collaborative platform dedicated to exploring the deep and complex histories of the Eastern Indigenous nations of the Americas — with a focus on Algonquian, Iroquoian, Muskogean, Carib (Kalinago), and Arawakan speaking nations prior to the 18th century.

Through a series of in-depth interviews with professors, historians, and cultural experts from across Canada, the United States, and beyond, we aim to shed light on how these nations were perceived and portrayed by European colonizers in the 16th, 17th, and 18th centuries — particularly through their art and literature.

Our content regularly features Indigenous voices, including tribal leaders, healers, and knowledge keepers from both recognized and unrecognized communities throughout North, Central and South America including Greater and Lesser Antilles.

Interviews:

Interview with Dr. Josef Köstlbauer w/ host Royce.G - 001

In our vary first episode, we will be interviewing Dr. Josef Kostlbauer from the Bon University in Germany. Who is a co-author and editor of the book and research project “Continent Allegories”. The objective of this conversation is to get a better understanding, on photos taken of fresco paintings and statues that have been circulating the internet. Which portray 16th, 17th and 18th century depictions of so-called  “Black” Indigenous American and Indigenous African Nations side by side in some of the oldest churches, monasteries and castles across Austria, Germany and other parts of Europe. We will go into an in depth conversation about why these paintings look the way they do, and why these multiple artists chose these specific depictions for their paintings and statues for more then two centuries across Europe.

Due to the amount of fresco paintings and statues, we will only be covering a few of them within this interview. To view all said paintings and statues please visit the official page:
